Four-Month Checkup

November 2, 2010

Lorelei had her four-month checkup yesterday, and all is well. Weighing in at 14 lbs., she’s very long (95th percentile) and has caught up in the weight department (75th percentile). Her head circumference is also in the 75th percentile; she’s looking less Charlie-Brown-like every day. Once again, she handled her shots like a trooper – even though this time there was no imminent visit with Uncle Dan to perk her up.

I like her pediatrician a lot, but he has a disarming way of asking leading questions that make me feel like a bad mommy; he may have missed his calling as a prosecutor:

“So she’s still being exclusively breastfed?”

“Uh, no – it’s actually about 50/50 milk and formula at this point.”

[taking copious notes] “Ummm-hmmm…and you’re home with her during the week?”

“No, she’s at daycare five days a week.”

“She smiles and laughs?”

“Oh, yes.”

“And when she’s on her tummy, she lifts herself up and rolls over?”

Gosh, when she’s on her tummy she just lies there like the target of a mob hit until I flip her back…but I really don’t want to tell him that.

“We don’t do a lot of tummy time, actually…”

He was, however, quite impressed with her new teeth. She may not be able to roll over yet, but she can masticate with the best of them.
