Is This What We Can Look Forward To?

August 22, 2010

The New Hampshire anti-drug coalition has posted a new billboard along the highway near here. It features a large photo of a sweet-faced teenage girl. “Meet Libby, 15 years old,” it says. “Libby loves horses, shopping, and prescription painkillers.”

The New Hampshire anti-drug coalition clearly doesn’t believe in beating around the bush.

The billboard goes on to explain that 1 in 5 teenagers is addicted to prescription drugs. This number seems a little high to me – when I was 15 my friends and I had barely plumbed the depths of a bottle of NyQuil (back before they removed all the fun stuff from NyQuil) – but I suppose times have changed.

I hope Lorelei sticks to shopping and horses. Or, even better, cats – nonaddictive and much cheaper than both horses and prescription painkillers.
