What’s In A Name?

January 25, 2010

Eric and I have officially decided on a name for the Olive – the first name was nailed down ages ago, back when we were still dating. (We had one of those cutesy-yet-cloying conversations that new couples tend to have, the kind that any sane eavesdropper would give you a smack for: “If you and I ever got married and had a baby girl, what do you think of the name ________?”)

It was the middle name that gave us trouble. Eric floated the eventual winner by me months ago and I shot it down cold. For some reason it grew on me, just hanging out back there in my subconscious, until eventually it bubbled up as the singular perfect choice.

Eric is both pleased that I came around and irritated that I’m such a flip-flopper. His life with me is, alas, full of these sorts of trade-offs.
